Lately, people have been talking about the fact that too much sugar can be toxic, as Dr. Sanjay Gupta pointed out on a recent "60 Minutes." But just ask anyone why they eat so many sweets and refined carbs, and they'll tell you that they feel downright addicted. On today's show, the first in a series about how sugar is toxic or addictive, you'll have a chance to hear directly from Dr. Nicole Avena, who has done groundbreaking research that explores how sugar can be addictive. Dr. Avena is a research neuroscientist and expert in the  fields of nutrition, diet and addiction. She received a Ph.D. in Neuroscience and Psychology from Princeton University, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in molecular biology at The Rockefeller University in New York City.   You'll be fascinated to learn directly from Dr. Avena about   fascinating research. In later shows, you'll also learn about research, which connects sugar over-use (I call it "abuse") to developing what I call "The Big Preventable Killers" -- specifically heart disease, cancer, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and Alzheimber's disease. Stay tuned for names of experts, who will join us. This Gab with the Gurus show is part of Book Launch Month festivities in honor of my new book, Beyond Sugar Shock. If you listen to this show and contact me with your biggest Ahah!, you have a chance to win a free copy of Beyond Sugar Shock and complimentary admission for one to my "Sugar Freedom Now Course," which next begins July 17.
